One evening I was called to a police station somewhere in Festac, Lagos, to help out a relative who had been arrested with a friend whilst legally parked on the side of a road. I was only nineteen at the time and still enrolled at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. Upon getting to the station, I was led to a room where some police officers were clearly cajoling one of the ‘suspects’ to add more details to his ‘statement’.

The Beginning
